The Challenge

Chain systems are key in chocolate production. Abnormal torque can signal lack of lubrication, wear, or imminent failure — leading to downtime and costly repairs.

The Goal

  • Monitor shaft torque in real time
  • Detect issues early
  • Automate lubrication reminders

The Approach

  • The team defined optimal torque ranges by combining filters, statistics tables, and input from shop floor experts.
  • Then Upper and Lower Control Limits were defined from ideal averages and standard deviations, converting these into a new live variable with the Formula builder to continuously track performance.
  • Using Value Based Searches and the monitoring system, automatic email alerts were set up to detect deviations. Clear lubrication instructions were also embedded through the context fields option in Contexthub, serving as a checklist that operators can review and double-check whenever an alarm is triggered.

Insight: Automated alerts turned maintenance into a proactive process, eliminating the need for manual tracking.

Context item/Event with troubleshooting recommendations

The Results

Metric Outcome
Torque Monitoring Live, automated tracking
Downtime Prevention Early warnings sent to teams
Asset Coordination Improved across production line

The Takeaway

Real-time torque alerts help avoid failures, reduce downtime, and protect product quality.
