LANXESS digitizes its global asset base
- Two thirds of all plants are equipped with data analytics software TrendMiner, by Software AG
- Higher capacity utilization and lower costs
Hasselt, Belgium – January 22, 2020 – TrendMiner, a Software AG company, announces that LANXESS has completed the implementation of TrendMiner’s self-service analytics software at major sites across the globe to accelerate the digital transformation of its production and improve operational performance. The roll-out started mid 2019 and covered almost two thirds of all LANXESS plants worldwide. Only smaller companies with less complex processes are not yet covered by the implementation.
TrendMiner is providing LANXESS’ engineers the flexibility to handle a wide range of analytics cases, collaborating across sites and growing the analytics-driven knowledge for improving their local production processes.
LANXESS is a leading specialty chemicals company with sales of EUR 7.2 billion in 2018. The company currently has about 15,500 employees in 33 countries and is represented at 60 production sites worldwide. The core business of LANXESS is the development, manufacturing and marketing of chemical intermediates, additives, specialty chemicals and high-performance plastics. The Group is currently undergoing a digital transformation.

LANXESS launched its digitalization initiative in 2017. To this end, the company has established a dedicated business unit. The key areas of activity of the initiative are the development of digital business models, the introduction of new technologies along the value chain, the development and use of big data and the embedding of digital skills among employees.
LANXESS started its cooperation with TrendMiner in 2018. TrendMiner was tested with LANXESS production data in real-life conditions with real use cases. During this evaluation period, the TrendMiner solution proved to be a flexible analytics tool for the process engineers. They could address many different use cases for improving LANXESS production processes by increasing capacity utilization and reducing production costs. From 2018 onwards TrendMiner was rolled out across almost two thirds of all LANXESS plants worldwide including the major sites in Germany, the Netherlands, the U.S. an India. With use of TrendMiner all production specialists can help continuously improve operational performance of their production plants.
