Huntsman Democratizes Advanced Analytics Globally to Speed-up the Continuous Improvement Cycle
Huntsman started their digitalization journey some years ago and one of the quickest wins was to leverage time-series data. As operational data is still kept in separated silos, this adds an extra challenge to improve operational excellence by use of advanced analytics. In his presentation Jasper Rutten will talk about the Huntsman analytics journey and how self-service analytics helps to make process and asset experts contribute to corporate operational goals. Next to the tools, the journey also was, and still is, about organizational and people aspects. The lessons learned help new sites to quickly adopt the new self-service analytics tool and benchmark site performance independent of the exact location, where the original data is stored. During Mr. Rutten’s presentation, some practical use cases will be shown, which supported Huntsman’s decision to roll out the chosen self-service analytics platform TrendMiner.
As part of a Global Excellence Team, the Advanced Analytics team has a global task to set out the route for digitization & Advanced Analytics for the MDI upstream manufacturing facilities. Still, the team also takes care of classic process modelling. Jasper Rutten is the manager of this department. He joined Huntsman in 2000 after graduation as a chemical engineer from the University of Twente (The Netherlands). His extensive experience in the area of chemical engineering provides a solid basis to lead the global journey bringing Industry 4.0 into practice.

Panel Discussion – Analytics Rollout Best Practices
Deciding to roll out analytics is perhaps the easiest part of the deployment process. Once the organization has determined what tool(s) and method(s) to use, a host of issues and questions must be defined, considered, and addressed. These issues run the gamut, from well-known but complex-to-solve considerations about technology governance and data management to deeply entrenched and often well-hidden cultural barriers impacting adoption and scale.
What is the strategy for data, including screening and validation, unstructured formats, segmentation and security?
Should the technology drive process change and optimization or will processes and skills shape how the technology is used?
What roles and responsibilities are needed, and how does those impact the current role of process and subject-matter owners?
How will best practices be captured and share, particularly in global organizations?
Organizations deploying analytics sort through similar tough decisions, influenced by their particular circumstances. While analytics doesn’t seem to support “one size fits all” deployment, there are good practices that can inspire, set standards, and help avoid common pitfalls. Attendees of this session will hear from organizations actively engaged in analytics.
Presenters, including Jasper Rutten of Huntsman will share their experience and lessons learned on how to effectively organize to support digital transformation through the deployment of analytics.
